Liew Kung Yu

LIEW KUNG YU (b. 1960) is an artist based in Kuala Lumpur. Using a wide variety of artistic means, such as painting, sculpture, and installations, he uncovers issues surrounding nationalism and identity. He is also involved in the preservation of Malaysian cultural properties and numerous community projects in cooperation with regional communities. He has participated in a number of exhibitions both in Malaysia and abroad. They include the 1st Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art, Queensland Art Gallery, Australia; Temu Seni Multi Media Nur Gora Rupa, Taman Budaya Surakata, Indonesia; Malaysia Art Now, National Art Gallery, Kuala Lumpur; Art in Southeast Asia: Glimpses into the Future, Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo and Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art, Hiroshima, Japan; Hayward Gallery, London; Asiatopia, Bangkok; and Gwangju Biennale.
